Instant gratification - when you make a choice and instantly see positive results.
TIER gives you this feeling whenever you gain a level-up and a new Mastery. Let me explain how this applied to my personal TIER character and recent experience.
Last week, I was playing with my level 4 Kobold archer. I was killing monsters and doing a great job until a Priestess appeared. She cast "Command" spell and made my character run away from battle twice! It was super annoying because I had a low Will save and couldn't resist this spell. Even with this difficulty, I survived the battle and gained a level-up and a new Mastery.
Now I had a tough choice to make.
#1: I could select a Mastery that increases my attack roll, damage, and other stats.
#2: I could take a Mastery that let's me do other cool stuff.
#3: I can take "Improved Will I". This Mastery adds +6 to my Will saves.
TIER offers freedom of choice, which most games do not allow. In most games, you are stuck with whatever strengths and weaknesses you started with. Thanks to TIER, I chose option #3 and improved my Will save greatly. Now I have a good chance against Will save spells.
Another player in our group is a crazy half-orc warrior. He doesn't care about defense at all. So he took "Rage King" Mastery. This will greatly increase his offensive capabilities. That is true freedom of choice and it makes TIER fantastic!
