Many role-playing games have "classes" that define your character. Classes are limiting because they force players to learn a specific set of abilities. Most heroes and villains that we see everyday in movies, comics, anime, and video games have a variety of abilities. TIER provides a system of Masteries that allow you to create any character you can imagine. Masteries provide special abilities and stat boosts in order to optimize your character. You start at 1st level with 3 Masteries (or 4 Masteries if you are Human) and gain more as you level-up.

I want to get into more detail about why I created TIER without using classes.
TIER allows players to make choices at every single level-up. This is a big deal because heroes fight, win, lose, make mistakes, and need a fair chance to improve themselves. To improve yourself, you need adaptability and CHOICE.
Games with classes don't allow choice because everything in your class is already pre-determined. If you aren't happy with your class or it doesn't give you what you want to improve, then you are screwed. Real life is full of surprises and unknown events. Heroes must be able to adapt to these surprises and unknown events by making new choices that are not pre-determined by a class.
TIER allows you to choose from 100+ Masteries at each Level-up. This allows a hero to go into a variety of directions. If a hero needs more offense, defense, or anything else, then they can choose a Mastery that suits their needs. This is the power of CHOICE.
